shopping list

Kim and I are heading to Montreal tomorrow to do a little bit of shopping. I have a wedding to go to in March so I need a dress...and that's the excuse we're using to spend money we shouldn't be. I have a few other things on my list that I'll be keeping an eye out for. I'm hoping to find these, or something similar.

Everyone needs a LBD and i'm liking this one from Simon's at $38!

Pleated waist tank dress

But since the wedding is small, and is guaranteed to be a good time, I'm thinking maybe something more fun would be nice.

Fluid open back dress
I'm sick of yoga pants. Although not exciting, I think a pair of skinny grey joggers would be good.
Sporty Lounge Pant

Now that I have a new love for belts, I'd like to own some colorful ones. Maybe a red one too.
Pleather Skinny Belt
As Kim has so nicely pointed out to me, I'm a little cardigan obsessed so I thought it'd be a good to add a few more blouses to my closet. The first one will probably end up looking like I'm wearing a paper bag, but the second one is cut perfect for me.

H&M Blouse
H&M Blouse
I'm seeing patterned pant's all over the place, and i'm liking these. I'm kind of thick in the legs so we'll see how they look on.

Cheap Monday Second Skin Jean
I've been looking everywhere for red pants, but all the ones I try on are super low rise. That does not in any way work with the mommy gut I'm sporting. These seem to have a nice high waist so I hope Urban Outfitters has them in stock.

opening ceremony

I am a big fan of Opening Ceremony. They are their own private label, and carry many popular American designers (Alexander Wang, Band of Outsiders, Proenza Schouler... ). They also do many collaborations, the most popular likely being with Chloe Sevigny. Serious fashion eye candy to be had on their site. My favs below.

new shoes and bag

I found some Acne Pistol boot look-a-likes at Aldo the other day on sale for $45 (they didn't have any black left in Canada so I ordered them in tan), and while I was at it I found some vaguely Isabel Marant looking sneakers and a cute cheap bag. 3 days after I placed my order I was refunded for the boots because they suddenly didn't have any in stock for me. AAAGGGHHH!!!! I did end up getting the sneakers ($37.49, and they have about a 1.5 inch wedge!) and bag ($19.98) though. And YES JEN, THE BAG HAS STUDS.

These shorts just popped up today on SSENSE. WTF?! These could not be any less flattering. Who out there wants to wear a sack on their ass? (I don't think the styling is helping any either). Comme Des Garçons is such an odd brand.

dressing for a storm

We're supposed to get pounded with a major snow storm sometime today. Which means we won't be going far from home. I was hoping to pop by the mall downtown to grab this sweater to replace the ratty, 10 year old one I'm wearing below. It's the last few days of the huge end of season sale at Aritzia and I should have bought it before. Now I'm out of luck.
Anyway, I dressed for shovelling and walks with Gia's sled and snow ball fights. It's exciting, I know.

little things

It's only 11am but i've already come to a few little realizations today...
- it hurts like hell to drop a tub of brown sugar on your foot
- even without swelling, its painful to wear boots
- it is not warm enough out to be comfy in a cute pair of flats
- i forgot to "iron" my fake leather jacket
- my seamless bra is not so seamless
- i'm at least 10 lbs away from looking good in this turtleneck (what the eff was i thinking?)
- eating 9 chocolate chip banana muffins in 3 days causes one heck of a muffin top
- if i can't wear a turtleneck now, then i've got a lot of work to do to wear a bathing suit in a few months
- there is an expiry date on the excuse "i just had a baby"...its been 16 months...its just lame now.

hubby's birthday dinner

Yesterday was my husband's birthday, so I took him out for dinner. We went to a restaurant I have been wanting to try for ages - The Wellington Gastropub. The food was incredible. More on that over on my page on desire to inspire. Here is what I wore (I ended up wearing a different necklace - a thin silver chain with cross made of pearls as I felt I needed something less dressy).
